Scandinavian Vikings culture

Vikings were pagans and the era when they were living is known as Viking age, which lasted for more than 300 years. Abroad the Vikings were known as fearless pirates, but at home they lived in a society well organized and based on laws and democracy. The Vikings were very talented people. They were poets, artists, painters and craftsmen. Another interesting Scandinavian Culture Fact is that no women were forced to get married. The women had a strong position in the Viking Society and they responsible for the farm and all environment when their men were abroad. A powerful housewife was symbolized with keys and if her husband took off her keys, she had the right to divorce him immediately.

Circle dancing while singing ballads are a historic part of the folk traditions of all of Northern Europe.

-The world’s largest population of Arctic reindeer herders can be found in Norway.
-While Finland is called “The Land of the 1,000 lakes”, the country has more than 188,000 lakes with 98,000 islands.
-During Easter in Sweden, which is a well-known holiday here, children dress up and go from home to home asking for candy, similar to Halloween!
